Product Description:

Vaginal Dryness in Menopause

Vaginal dryness is common in women, especially during hormonal changes such as menopause. A recent study of 1,017 women in the US between the ages of 55 and 75 indicates that approximately 85% of postmenopausal women report vaginal itching or dryness. About 40% of sexually active women reported painful intercourse (Huang et al, Menopause, Jan 2010).
Vaginal dryness occurs due to thinning of the vaginal walls as estrogen decreases. Vaginal odour occurs due to an increase in pH leading to growth of bacterial flora that are normally suppressed by an acidic environment.

Background on Ingredients –

Damiva has a patent pending on the formulation for Mae. Mae is 100% vegan, and has never been tested on animals.
Cocoa Butter – Used traditionally for anal suppositories, cocoa butter melts instantly upon contact with the mucous membrane and has an immediate soothing effect. Polyphenols such as undecan-2-ol in cocoa butter have anti-microbial properties.
Kokum Butter – An astringent and soothing emollient butter made from the mangosteen fruit, the hydroxycitric acid in kokum butter helps to maintain a naturally acidic environment. Kokum butter also contains garcinol, an effective anti-microbial agent.
Sea Buckthorn Extract – The lignans in sea buckthorn are phytoestrogens, mimicking the effect of estrogen. Sea buckthorn also is rich in vitamins (A, B, C and E), carotenoids, amino acids and dietary minerals.
Hyaluronic Acid – Hyaluronic acid is a natural polysaccharide that retains moisture within the epidermal cell. Clinical trials have demonstrated that hyaluronic acid applied vaginally significantly decreases the symptoms of vaginal dryness, likely through the mechanism of retaining moisture within the vaginal mucosa(2).

Customer’s Share –

Vaginally, I was feeling really dry, and nothing else worked—not oral hormones or a multitude of lubricants. I was happy to discover Mae by Damiva because it doesn’t have any nasty ingredients; no petroleum by-products, no preservatives. It’s non-toxic, long-lasting and it works for me. It has definitely changed my sex life so it makes me happier—and my husband’s happier.

Carol S.

About 5 years after menopause, I started experiencing vaginal dryness that was extremely uncomfortable. My doctor prescribed a pill that caused itching, burning, and a lot of discomfort. Safety is a concern for me; it’s my body that is affected, and if I put something in my body that causes problems, I won’t be a happy camper. So when I saw Ms. Sun’s Mae by Damiva pitch on Dragons’ Den and googled it to find out where I could get her product, I tried it. It is all-natural, easy to insert, dissolves in your body and has no side effects. It really works! That’s why I use Mae.

There are billions of bacteria living in the intestinal tract often referred to as ‘microflora’ or ‘microbiota”. Probiotics are live microorganisms, which when administered in adequate amounts confer a health benefit on the host (FAO/WHO 2002). Found in the microflora they work to keep a healthy intestinal balance, reducing the amount of harmful bacteria while replenishing and maintaining beneficial strains. Maintaining this balance is critical for overall good health.

Why supplement with probiotics?

Beneficial bacteria may be reduced due to a variety of factors:

  • Age
  • Antibiotic or other medication use
  • Infection or illness
  • Lifestyle
  • Dietary changes or poor diet
  • Stress
  • Digestive disorders
  • Traveling

An unhealthy balance between the beneficial and harmful bacteria may affect gastrointestinal function.

Who needs probiotics?

Daily probiotic supplementation is considered a necessary component of any healthy diet. It supports health for the whole family – from kids to adults. While probiotics may be added in foods such as yogurts and smoothies, direct probiotic supplementation provides the highest amount of beneficial live and active cultures. Probiotics should be a routine part of a daily lifestyle to help maintain optimal health conditions.

Probiotics to the rescue –

As the evidence on the benefits of probiotics is building, several studies suggest that these natural remedies, which contain beneficial bacteria, may help prevent or relieve some digestive problems. Many medical doctors as well as natural health practitioners have long recognized that probiotics can often help people with digestive disorders such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), diarrhea, gas and bloating. They may also help regulate the immune system. They may even protect against common respiratory infections.

Probiotics will fortify your intestinal flora, which are essential for proper digestion and nutrient absorption. This is key to good health and a strong immune system. Studies have shown that patients who begin a course of probiotics a few days prior to surgery are less likely to pick up a post-operative infection during their hospital stays. This demonstrates a strong connection between intestinal flora and immune function.

The most convincing evidence for probiotics comes from studies of infectious diarrhea. In 2008, an expert panel at Yale University reviewed available evidence and recommended the use of probiotics for the elimination of childhood infectious diarrhea. “If you start children with infectious diarrhea on probiotics, you can shorten the length of the illness by 24 to 30 hours,” says Martin Floch, MD, a gastroenterologist at Yale University School
of Medicine.

Findings from several studies show that probiotics taken before a course of antibiotics may help prevent antibiotic-associated diarrhea.

Not all probiotics are created equal! How to choose the right one?

Probiotics are critically important for health, and the data confirming their benefits just keeps piling up. But where to start? With numerous probiotic strains out there, what works best for diarrhea? For use after a round of powerful antibiotics? Or what’s best for daily maintenance? And do they all work the same? Here’s what you need to know before buying and using probiotics.
1. Strain Source Diversity and Origin: Humans are born essentially sterile, meaning free of bacteria, with maternal transmission providing the initial inoculum. Bacteria then colonize the human through a variety of environmental sources: mother, environment, foods, etc. Although human “derived” strains are a foundation to build upon, origin is not a pre-requisite for probiotic benefits, and strain source diversity ensures strains with different habitat preferences are provided. While their mechanism of action and reach may vary, in their totality, source diversity provides full spectrum
GI support.
2. The Right Strain: The right strain is more important than the number of strains. For probiotics to be effective they must provide the appropriate health benefits — this is specific to the condition, the dose and the strain of probiotic. For those looking for health maintenance — gut health and an immune system boost, a good, broad spectrum probiotic is optimum. For specific conditions, a probiotic strain that is proven to aid in that specific condition is what’s needed. A Lactobacillus with broad spectrum benefits will work in the upper intestine, and Bifidobacteria will work in the lower intestinal tract, look for strains like B. longum, B. bifidum and B. lactis. Additionally the composition of our gut flora evolves throughout our entire life, from birth to old age; consequently, the elderly have substantially different microbiota to younger adults. Children have heavier Bifidobacterium counts while adults have even Lactobacillus/ Bifidobacterium ratio counts. Therefore, it’s important to maintain the natural balance of microflora.
3. Acid and Bile Resistance: Many probiotics are not able to survive the acid in the stomach and bile in the small intestine to reach the desired location in the gut (in some cases, fewer than 25% can make it through). Properly selected Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium cultures contain the following common features: resistance to low pH and and bile acids, the ability to compete and survive in the intestinal environment, the ability to adhere to the intestinal cells, production of metabolites beneficial to the host and harmful to pathogens, for example lactic acid, hydrogen peroxide, bacteriocins.
4. Individual Probiotic Needs: Dairy-free, gluten-free, soy-free, corn-free, non-GMO, vegetarian capsules, vegan are all qualities important to some people. Make sure you read the label to find out if your probiotics meet your needs.

The body is born sterile (ie. No microflora). Children and seniors have higher ratios of Bifidobacterium while adults have a 50/50 balance between Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus. The amount of CFU (colony forming units) is important – lower amounts for general maintenance, higher amounts for condition specific.

For women of all ages; this probiotic is formulated just for you to support urinary tract health. For pure probiotics, certified organic cranberry and pure well-being, look no further! Feminine Support consists of four strains of Lactobacillus found in a healthy vaginal tract including our ultimate superstrain L. acidophilus DDS®-1, L. rhamnosus, L. gasseri and L. plantarum, along with Bifidobacterium lactis.
